Dear 944 Turbo,
I know you are being sold, and leaving our family, but I will find you again, someday... Life, it seems, has punched me in the gut, yet again, and for the time being, I’ll have to watch some guy I don’t know drive off with you. Hopefully this man will treat you as kindly, and maintain you as well as my grandfather, and father have. Hopefully when I hunt you down in a few years, you won’t have had a ton of miles added on to the approximately 37,500 miles you have now. Hopefully this man won’t beat you to hell. Hopefully this man won’t do something absurd like gut you and turn you into a track-day car. If he does any of these things, I may not be able to keep my cool, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.
I tried everything I could to find a way to buy you from my father... I considered getting a loan, but considering I’m unemployed at the moment, and don’t have much of a credit history, it’s unlikely a bank would give me one. I tried to convince my father to hold off on selling you, so that I could find work, and buy you from him over time, but he shot that down by telling me “give me $16,300 right now, or forget it”. I desperately brainstormed for ideas on how to get the cash, and even considered something as desperate as starting a crowdfunding campaign, and asking other people to donate money to me so that I could buy you... But I figured that like most other things in my life, it wouldn’t work out, and in the end I’d just feel like an ass for trying.
So here we are... On the night during which you will likely be sold to some stranger, and I am quite sad, though not as sad as I will be when this stranger eventually arrives to pick you up, and take you away. Watching some stranger drive off with you is going to be gut-wrenching, as I have longed to own you since I first saw you, and went for a ride with you at the age of 9.
So, it is with a heavy heart, and a frown on my face that I say Goodbye 944, I’ll find you again, someday...

Wow... Not to be rude, but my family would have held it for me till I coul buy it :/
Provided I have the means to pay towards it

Sorry to hear about your loss. This is always tough, I remember being a bit misty eyed when my dad sold his Corvette. I hope you’re able to find her again one day.

My father and I have never really gotten along, so I’m not surprised, but I had hoped that this would have been one of the rare times where he’d have been nice, and done me a favor, and given me a chance to try to buy it... But unfortunately, this was not one of those times.

I can understand that, Good luck dude.

I have the VIN, so I should be able to hunt it down someday... I just hope it’s still in good condition when I do.

Thank you... Much appreciated.

Man, that’s gut wrenching. I hope you find it later on, and I hope time treats it well.

It is... I am quite gutted at the moment... And thank you, I have the VIN so hopefully I’ll find it again one day... I really hope time treats it well also... I’ll be even more gutted if I find it and time hasn’t.

Whereabouts in PA are you?

If its any comfort, anyone who buys a 944 turbo with low mileage for a high price is 999 times out of 1000 and enthusiast and will take great care of it, so if in the future you do have the means to purchase it, it will most likely still be in good shape.

This might sound a little insensitive, and I admittedly don’t know your dad or the family situation, but he sounds like a dick. Unless he is in dire financial straights and afford to keep the (I assume paid for) 944 around, he is just being a real big dick. PERIOD.
I know that doesn’t comfort you any nor will it keep the 944 within your grasp, but that’s all I have to say about this situation.

Out of curiosity... why?

Though I can see both sides of the argument, this is really a damn shame. My dad and I didn’t mesh for years, but we used cars as a bonding experience and now that I’m an adult, we get along and still work on cars together.

Is it actually sold or is he just working on selling it?

Sorry man :( Like Trunk Impaired 318 said, there’s a good chance it won’t be molested, so that’ll give you a better chance in the future to get it back.

I know he was supposed to talk to the potential buyer tonight, but after talking with him recently and basically finding out that he won’t hold on to it for a bit to give me a chance to buy it, I haven’t really talked to him, so I don’t know if he closed the deal or not. But from the way my dad was talking, it seems that it’s essentially a done deal.

I’ve been trying to use cars as a way for he and I to bond, but unfortunately, as per the usual, he seems to think that I don’t know a damned thing about anything, so all doing so has done is cause us to argue about cars... I think at this point I give up on trying to bond with him. Which is a shame, but one can only try something so many times before doing so becomes pointless.

The only thing left to do is move away, get a nice job, work hard, buy your own 944 and tell your old man to stuff it on Thanksgiving.

Thanks... And I certainly hope so...

I agree... But rather than buy my own 944, I
will
find this one down the line and buy it... And when I do, I will just show up to his house with it, and rub it in his face that I found it and got it back... And if he dares to ask if he can drive it (which is something he’d do), well, I’ll just laugh and laugh, and then abruptly stop, and say “Are you fucking kidding? Nope, you can’t. Keep your hands off my Porsche.”

Nice! So the first item of business is getting you a jerb. What are going for?

TBH, I have no idea... Considering I have had such an extremely difficult time finding work (I haven’t gotten a call back in I don’t even know how long), I’m planning on going to college for a degree of some sort... Likely something automotive related, just not sure whether it’ll be simple automechanics, automotive design, or automotive engineering... I figure at least if I get a degree in something, it’ll open up new options for me.
For a while, I tried to get my own automotive based website going, but doing everything for it by myself was just too much to handle, and with my limited resources, I couldn’t afford to advertise it, or spend money to create content for it, so I’m not sure what I’m going to do with that.
In the short term, I’m going to try to find any job I can. I’m actually going to go to a local Taxi company one day soon to see if I can get a cab and work for them... Not my ideal job, and probably not the best paying one, but at least it’s income. If that doesn’t work, I’ll either go back to catering, or maybe I’ll give starting my own detailing service another shot.

I live 20-30 min outside the KOP mall near Doylestown. When I saw the PA plate I was curious. There seem to be a good amount of eastern PA opponaughts. Hope this all works out and ou find it in good health down the road!

Ah... I was unaware there were a good number of people from around here on Oppo... And thanks, so do I... That car has sentimental value to me, so it’d hurt to find it in bad shape, or worse.

So....if it hasn’t sold, let me know. I’d have to get out of my 135is to buy the thing but that’s certainly a possibility, and the ‘88 944 Turbo S/’89 944 Turbo is one of my dream cars. Just read my kinja blog to see that it would be going to a good home. ;)

Sorry for being selfish, man, but I’m actively trying to prevent it from being sold to anyone outside of my family. I want to keep close tabs on that car, and the easiest way to do that is to keep it close. It being a low mileage 944 Turbo in excellent shape isn’t the main reason I want that car... I want it because it was my grandfather’s. He’s lead a pretty amazing life... and because of who he is, and the things he’s accomplished in his life, that car holds sentimental value to me. So, I’m sorry, but I’m not going to facilitate the sale of that car in any way, unless it’s to me.

Dude, this is gonna sound rude, but I’m on your pop’s side on this one. If you don’t have the means to pay for it, I’m gonna assume your father doesn’t really believe you deserve it. No job/no school/etc. Or he doesn’t believe you have the money necessary to maintain a 27 year old car. Or he doesn’t want to see you crash it. Or he’s trying to teach you a lesson. Either way. Get a job. Save money. Buy car.
